I had a phone call yesterday from my Mum to let me know that there had been a terrible accident in Valencia. We have friends who live over there, and have done for the past five years.

Mark and Lorraine moved over there from Brighton, East Sussex. They have two sons and twin 14 year old daughters, Lauren and Samantha.

Anyways, Thursday evening, Samantha had gone in to the town of L'Olleria, near Valencia, where the live, along with her friend Gemma. Lorraine and Lauren went down to the town to pick the two girls up, and had to cross a ravine over a bridge to get to where they were going. When they were coming back, the weather was so bad, that the river had risen to over the top of the bridge. They could not drive over, so decided, as the water was not too deep, to walk over, all holding hands for support.

Some how, as they were walking across, one of them slipped and fell. The others fell also. They were swept over the edge of the bridge and in to the river. Samantha was able to grab hold of a tree about 25 yards down stream, and was also able to grab hold of Gemma. However, very sadly, she could only watch as her mother and twin sister were swept away.

Lorraine and Lauren's bodies were found shortly before midnight on Thursday night. They were recovered around 2am Friday morning.

I just cannot comprehend this. They were such a lovely family, so close knit.

They are going to be missed by everyone that knew them.

May they rest in eternal peace.
