A Russian passenger jet with 170 people aboard disappeared from radar screens after sending a SOS message Tuesday and probably crashed, an emergency official said. The plane, on its way from the Black Sea resort of Anapa to St. Petersburg, disappeared from radar screens over Ukraine, Emergency Situations Ministry spokeswoman Yulia Stadnikova said.

MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) -- A Russian plane crashed in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine Tuesday afternoon, according to the news agency Interfax, quoting the Ukrainian Emergencies Ministry.
Russia's state-run RIA Novosti reported wreckage has been found in Ukraine.
Interfax said the Tupolev TU-154 aircraft had about 170 people on board when it crashed about 3:25 p.m.
It was en route from the Black Sea resort town of Anapa to St. Petersburg.
