Asperger Syndrome V2

A while back, there was a thread about Asperger Syndrome where half of the a.nutters that participated ended up thinking that they were "aspies"...

For those who weren't there- Asperger Syndrome is a "condition" in the autistic spectrum that basically makes it hard for you to function socially- it's autism, but you can function like a normal person (if it isn't too severe that is)- one of the asperger traits is an interest for means of transport- ie. planes  Smile You can use the search function (type in Asperger syndrome and search in "archived non-av").

Well, for those still worrying if they have it or not, I found this survey: http://www.rdos.net/eng/Aspie-quiz.php . It's a bit lengthy, but apparently, it's pretty accurate (not that it can diagnose you). It was pretty funny to see random a.netters diagnosing themselves  Wink

I'd especially like the diagnosed aspies to try it out and see how big a score they get.

My score was:

Your Aspie score: 199 of 200 (  eek  )
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 14 of 200  cheeky
You are very likely an Aspie.

It's quite lengthy, but I found it pretty interesting  Smile

Always be careful with these surveys online. If you have a real concern about having this, go consult a psychologist.

What I said  Wink It can't diagnose you, but it IS pretty accurate. Most "normal" (non-asperger) people got "you have a few aspie traits"- but then again, so does 90% of the world  Wink

199 is pretty appropriate for me though... I was diagnosed late (I quote my psychiatrist: "but girls can't have asperger!") and I never got the help I needed to get over some of the stuff that comes with asperger, so mine is fully grown  Yeah sure

But no, you can't diagnose yourself by taking this test. I just feel it's more fitting than the list of symptoms in the previous thread.

My mom has a friend who has two adopted children. A girl who has her own problems and has run away before but is now starting to get "on track". Her son though has Aspergers and Bipolar. His condition is so bad he has to live in a facility for people with these conditions. I met him last time we visited them and he didn't seem overly bad but I always knew something was wrong with him. Me and my family feel really bad as the family has been through some terrible times not including the problems their children have.

I believe that I am a very sick person, but copious amounts of beer self-medicates me and allows me to interact (very badly, but better than nothing) with society.

My brother has a severe case of Asperger's Syndrome. He can be completely unbearable to live with at many times. I am constantly abused verbally and he lacks any real social life or function. It is a horrible condition to have, and don't be too quick to think you have it.

Aspergers do that  blush  I'm pretty sure kevin can confirm that I went absolutely obsessive at one point  rotfl  It's disgusting as heck, but it happens- same goes for wounds that are healing, pimples (  vomit  I know..) and basically anything that looks like it shouldn't be there  Silly Of course, when it says "other people", it has to be someone you know, an aspie doesn't just come over and start peeling your skin off Big grin

Somehow this survey is a bit like the story of my life. I get the impression the score is somewhat accurate.

Your Aspie score: 138 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 74 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie

You should look into it. A lot of people get a lot of questions answered when they're diagnosed- I know I did  Smile

You've been able to work on the symptoms and problems though, haven't you?  Smile If diagnosed relatively early, and if you get help with dealing with some of the problems, the symptoms become almost invisible Big grin

I was diagnosed less than one year ago- I'm on the heavy end of the scale, aspie wise, which is pretty appearant  crazy

Yeah, drugs and therapy work quite nicely!  laughing

I've been finished with those for about two years now, and it's been pretty much tea and roses ever since. There's still no kidding any psychiatrist that I do have asperger's, but I suppose the point is to make it as transparent as possible to others and work on the bigger issues.

You still have some ways to go, but you're definitely on the right track. The best thing you can do is acknowledge that you have a problem then seek out the help you need, and it looks like you're doing just that. I garuantee, you'll be an entirely different person once you're all finished.

Don't expect me to do get something diagnosed here in Costa Rica. I don't trust the health system here and I don't want to waste my money on a shrink who probably doesn't have a clue about my problems.

I'll definitely try to sort it out eventually though.
