Good luck enjoying this beautiful view as a pax on the 787, your window will most likely be dimmed and locked by the crew whether you like it or not! Awful aircraft to fly on for window seat fans.

Actually it’s a fantastic feature. There’s nothing worse than egoistic people that light up the whole cabin so they can peek out at the expense of the rest of the passengers trying to get a bit of sleep.

Tell that to my friend who missed out on enjoying this view and the stunning sights of Greenland because of this "fantastic" feature, the Aurora Borealis flight was a red eye while the flight over Greenland was a daytime westbound from Europe, there was absolutely no need to dim the windows on both flights.

It's a terrible feature. It is the number one reason why I don't book flights on the Boeing 787 (the second one being the 3-3-3 seating in economy). There's nothing worse than egoistic people complaining about light in the cabin when they could have very easily used a sleeping mask. I have heard more negative reviews of this feature than positive ones. Friends took a daylight flight to the Carribean on a 787. Windows were dimmed almost the entire flight. They told me it felt like sitting inside an aquarium for hours on end without being able to look outside. Never again. Get rid of the 787! Or at least of its dimmable windows!

Same here, I've never flown the 787 and will continue to avoid it as much as I can, thank God for Airbus and Delta! It's always great to hear from a fellow a.netter with common sense, unfortunately for you and me the stupid dimmable windows are here to stay, Airbus considered introducing them at the beginning of this year, let's hope they'll do the right thing and change their mind.

It's horrible. Why have WINDOWS on a plane if you can't look out of them? Also, if you're trying to watch the AURORA, it's proooooooobably not the case that you're going to "light up the whole cabin" by opening the window since it's, y'know, night time. I've been on 787 flights that left at 9 a.m. and arrived at 3 p.m. - the middle of the day - and spent the entire flight locked in a lightless tube even though it was NOON. Senseless.

Hi. I was wondering why the APU is running?

Where do you see that? On the overhead panel? Maybe at Aeromexico, the APU is required to be on for ETOPS flights.

I can only hope the passengers had the same view. And that the cabin crew didn't darken the windows.
